MAY 15th Design Team reveal and challenge!

Hi, sorry it's a bit late but I wanted to do a layout for this reveal! 

The challenge for the sketch teams this month was to  

use recycled materials for the squares on the sketches. You could use something such as cardboard, gift wrap, tissue paper...

LAYOUT TEAM

I used paint chips and corrugated cardboard on this one plus the cardstock is from the Greenfield paper company that sponsored us for the blog hop.

I used magazines, scraps and a piece of a dictionary page to make my squares.
~KANDI PHILLIPS

I used old flash cards my son had when he was a little guy, and part of his school work to complete my last day of school page.

and mine:

I was looking through a magazine one day and there was a FULL SHEET of VELLUM in there! There was some advertising on it, but I didn't care! I used the vellum for the squares in the background. I used an old business card to make the date tag.

The beads I used were from my Mom's sewing basket.The paint colour used on the canvas is a mixture of 2 shades of acrylic that I had on hand, rather than purchasing a "new" specific colour.Scrap of mini ric-rac came from my scrap ribbon-bin!

APRIL Challenge Reveal!

The challenge is...

ANYTHING GOES as long as it has a "green" item (recycled item) on it!

I used the inside of some envelopes for my page, you know the ones you get your bank statement and junk main in? Well some of them have really nice patterns on the inside! I cut some circles in my cardstock and then glued parts of the envelopes to the back of my page to show through the holes.

I used an old piece of cardboard, some string, 2 old tickets and a small pc. of a library date slip.

The brown and white felt is recycled from a felt purse my friend made me a couple years back.  She is not a "crafty" person by nature so I hated to part with it but I rarely used it.  While I was putting it in the get rid of pile, I realized I could reuse the felt myself.  Add some buttons and thread and presto, I give you felt flowers.

How many of you have missing pieces to a puzzle? In my case, we got puzzles in a kids meal, so I swiped the pieces (since they probably would have ended up in the garbage!) and painted them for my layout. Looking around the house for unwanted or unused items for your scrapbooks is a great way to go green, and add fun details to your pages! One fun thing to note - Before the paint was dry I shot it with my heat gun. The heat caused the white to do a cool crackle look, and the black to bubble, which was a really cool look too!

The Basket I found at a local Goodwill Store for 50 cents.Material is upcycled from an Upholstry Fabric Sample Album.The buttons are from a tin of buttons that once belonged to my G.G. Aunt Alice.I used a soft foam block that came as packaging in a box. wooden skewers from my kichen and hemp rope for the stems.Topped off with some Spanish Moss

I altered a standing 4x6" picture frame I bought from the odds and ends bin at the local Frenchy's (a second-hand store-- you may even have them there! they are all over NS and a few in NB too!)!

Gift Bag

This is a Prima Flower bag that I could NOT possibly throw away. So, yesterday I created a little tag using a digital from INKTEGRITY and tied it to the bag. Cute huh!!

MARCH Altered Projects

The Altered Art team were challenged to use tissue paper, paper bag or lined paper on their altered project

JEAN MARIE PENNINGTON- I created a wreath using paper Grocery bags all items on this wreath are from paper bags there is a little touch of hemp rope that I braided in with the bag strips. Inked and spritzed with Glimmer Mist Then sprayed over with a acrylic spray.

Treat Cups

Here is the project that I was going to post during the blog hop but couldn't do it because of family circumstances.

I started with cleaned fruit cups and filled them with treats.

I'll show you three different ways to turn these cups into treat cups.

With one of the cups I covered the top with mesh and clear gift wrap.

Then I wrapped it down around and tied a piece of ribbon around it.

The next treat cup I put in a zippy bag and closed it up.

I tied a piece of ribbon around the bag and trimmed off the top of the bag. To make it easy to pull together I poked a little hole in it to let the air out as I pulled the ribbon together.

The third I laid on a piece of tissue paper.

I pulled it up around the treat cup and tied a piece of ribbon around it.

So there you have it. Not too hard or fancy but adds a nice touch to a treat. I did these for Valentine's Day but ,of course, they can be used for any occasion, even as birthday treats. So, start saving those little fruit cups! They'll come in handy sometime!!!

The altered team was asked to create something using a recycled item and real stitching on it.

JEAN MARIE PENNINGTON
Jean said, "The recycled Items I used are large fridge advertisement magnets from my phone book and last years calendar magnet from the doctors office. I created felt magnets for valentines day."

ALI MacDONALD
Ali said, "I altered old jeans and made embellishments for Los or cards. Here is the info.
Pic 1 is a set of 6 different types of "SCRUFFY POSIES" (as I have decided to call them, ) LOL!
1. Slightly Gathered, Zigzag Posey
2. Flat "Sun Rays" Flower
3. Heavy Denim, Frayed Flower
4. Flat Zigzag Posey
5. Flat & Funky Floss Flower

6. Extra-Scruffy, (slightly gathered) Ink-Grunged Posey

All six Posies are stitched at LEAST in the centres. Several are machine stitched and one is stitched by hand.

I simply cut circles freehand from old jeans and then zigzagged them right-side up and wrong-side up, in no particular order, to a piece of paper ribbon. Pressed lightly. Ready to use!"

And she created a layout using those scruffy flowers and denim edging.

JAN HENNINGS
Jan made an altered frame. She said," I reused a frame and some scraps of cardstock and lace to make my altered frame. I used my sewing machine to stitch around the Stampin' Up! rub-on and then glued it to the patterned paper. Add a button and you have a super simple, inexpensive gift or home decor item."

Now, on to the layout sketch.

The layout team was asked to create a layout using the sketch as inspiration, and to use a recycled item on their layout.

Alexa said, "The green items I used were corregated cardboard from a wine box and I also punched a cork place mat to make some buttons."

JOAN LIDDLE
Joan said said she used "Prima packaging for the photo mat and the journaling card, old buttons and the heart is punched from a coffee sleeve."
 

FAYE PERATA
Faye said, "On this page, the recycled item is the flower on the page. These are blossoms that I like to make. I use images from magazines and old book pages and repurpose them into a flower blossom. I love using magazines to make these blossoms because of their glossy look. I also add tulle into the layered look. The center brad is a traditional gold brad you find in an office supply store that I have covered with glue and glitter. I also used notebook paper for my journal spot... i rescued this notebook from my friends garbage can. She was throwing it away cause it got wet so I just cut that part off. I don't know if that counts though :)"

Kandi said, "The recycled item used on my layout is the brown paper packaging. I got a lot of it during December when lots of online purchases showed up at my house! ;)"

Tanya said, " I reused packaging (black paper from Heidi Swapp & a grungeboard tag from ranger)."

I also did one. I used a sheet of a notebook.

It's amazing how you can use recycled materials in a layout! Wasn't that fun seeing all the creations!!!

The card sketch team was asked to use this sketch as inspiration, and to use a recycled item on their card.

Victiroa used "Prima say it with crystals backing board - it is the turquoise piece on the front of the card. Much too pretty not to use!"

Jeanna said , "as for the recycled material that I used in my card, I used an old box and get the corrugated part of it.. I distressed it with a blank ink to put some weathery effect on it."

Jennifer said, "for the newspaper one - obviously the newspaper is recycled (circles crinkled and then distressed with ink), but also the card base is some of my coffee paper: coffee ground sprinkled on cs, allowed to dry, and then sept into the garden or compost. twine for buttons is more of my dog food bag twine! :) papers are Basic Grey Indian Summer and digi is from Squigglefly if you need that info.


for the little girl one - the pink paper is actually manilla type paper that a candle or something was wrapped in from the store for protection. (like they would tissue paper before putting it in the shopping bag). I sprayed it with 2 coats of rose tea glimmer mist prior to using punches. I want you to know that I did actually sew on this card - a major thing for me because I DO NOT sew!! only for you, babe! :) paper is Basic Grey Euphoria and image is again from Squigglefly. "

Recycling...

I made this little gift box by nabbing one of those FREE McD gift card holders that look like their fries boxes. I carefully took it apart and used it as a template. Voila, a gift box!

This idea is not really "recycling" as such but re-using, maybe! Aren't notebooks just so plain and blahhhh? Well, I took one apart carefully (just by bending the wire a little, it simply comes out easy by twisting it out). I glued some pretty patterned paper onto the front and fancied it up. And, now the notebook is wayyyyyyy more fun!!! Ready to give away, or keep for yourself! haha!

Oh, our FIRST DT reveal will take place on January 15th!!! So be watching for it!!!
